What We Do

The Human Resources Department assists with a wide variety of employment matters across the 500-person network of County employees. It administers recruitment, selection, training and retention, employee benefits, and compensation, policies and procedures, job description development, employee performance, and safety and wellness programs. The Department serves as an advisor to elected officials, department heads, and others in a supervisory capacity in the 24 offices and departments throughout the County. In addressing employment matters, the Department treats each individual with respect and takes a fair approach as warranted by the circumstances. The Department seeks to achieve resolutions and outcomes that best reflect the interests of the County as a whole.

Mission Statement

The HR Department is the catalyst for ensuring an “Employer of Choice” culture within Washington County. We will be successful in doing so by focusing on hiring good leaders who possess effective leadership traits. We partner with our employees to create a safe and open environment where 2-way communication is encouraged and rewarded, and by encouraging a variety of employee wellness activities.

Our objective is to attract and retain quality employees at all levels in the organization. We believe it is a privilege to be an employee at Washington County. It is our departmental objective to ensure that employees have an opportunity to contribute meaningfully in building a better place for all of us to live and work.
