This map (interactive and printable) shows the evacuation zones for the Forsyth Fire. If you live in the area, check out the map to see if your in one of the numbered zones. These zones are colored Red, Yellow Green.

Red= Evacuate and listen to sources such as our Facebook page and Utah Fire Info for further instructions. Take pets, medication, phone and some money if possible.
Yellow= Be ready to evacuate. Have a plan of where you will go and notify family where you will meet if you leave. Have bags packed with necessary items including for pets and listen for instructions to come in via text, phone, email, loudspeaker or door to door notification. If you don’t feel safe don’t wait for instructions leave. Its always better to be safe.
Green= Your normal state. Hopefully you are always prepared and have 72 hour kits and family emergency plans ready. For more information visit: Be Ready Utah.
If you’re not in yellow or green or not in one of the evacuation zones it is not anticipated that you will be evacuated so stay in a green prepared state.

PUBLIC NOTICE
Washington County Utah is seeking Qualification Proposals for the construction of an Emergency Operations and Legacy Park Storage Facility with offices and training near the Washington County Fairgrounds in Hurricane City, Utah at 5710 W Shooting Sports Park Rd. The new facility is planned to include garage bays, storage space, offices, and associated uses. The facility is expected to be approximately 17,225 square feet in size. For preliminary plans and a copy of the Request for Qualifications, respondents may send an email to: nicholle.felshaw@washco.utah.gov. Deadline for Submission of Statement of Qualifications: 4:00 pm on Friday, November 1, 2024, at the Washington County Commission Office at 111 E Tabernacle, St. George, UT 84770 (Google Maps). Only those respondents who are pre-qualified through this process will be allowed to bid on the construction of the facility.

90% of Utah’s population lives in Active Earthquake Zones. The Great Utah ShakeOut is our chance to practice together how to protect ourselves, and for everyone to become prepared. The goal is to save lives and prevent disasters from becoming catastrophes. In order to act quickly, you must practice what to do – ShakeOut is that opportunity.
As part of the Great Utah Shakeout, Washington County activated the Emergency Operations Center (EOC). The EOC is the hub for information management, decision making, and resource support and allocation during an emergency response. Partnering with different agencies within the community, the EOC serves as a one-stop-shop to help Incident Commanders coordinate disaster relief efforts.
At 10:00 am, 21 April 2022, the Washington County EOC activated with participants from the county EOC office, the Washington County GIS department, the finance department, the Sheriff’s Office, the Washington County Public Works Department, the Washington County Assessor’s Office, the Civil Air Patrol, the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES), the Southwest Utah Public Health Department, and other community volunteers. As part of the activation, the EOC practiced logging onto the WebEOC portal, walked through communicating with each other, practiced making requests, evaluated the finance approval process, created maps, and the ARES group reached out on the Ham radios and other communication tools.
In an actual earthquake, you may only have seconds to protect yourself before strong shaking knocks you down, or something falls on you. It is critical to practice “quake-safe” beforehand? When the adrenaline kicks in, you may not act safely if you haven’t practiced the Drop, Cover, Hold On drill before that moment. Don’t wait until the shaking. The goal of the EOC is to support incident commanders in the field and promote community preparedness. Whether it be: earthquakes, floods, fires, or whatever else might happen, regular practice and training will make all the difference in responding efficiently. Yesterday, April 16th was recognized as the Great Utah Shakeout day where government entities and other organizations around the state participate in Earthquake drills. As we remember the recent earthquake up north, and as we recognize that we have several earthquake faults in the Washington County area, we feel that it is appropriate to be prepared for that possibility in our area.
At 10:00 am yesterday, the Washington County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) participated in an exercise for the Great Utah Shakeout. Coordinating with emergency responders and other local agencies, the county walked through what-if scenarios that aided in planning and preparing for the possibility of an earthquake.
Commenting on the preparation efforts, Commissioner Gil Almquist stated, “We know earthquakes aren’t a matter of if, but when. Preparing for a crisis well in advance is how we do things in Washington County.”
