Public Notice – Chip Sealing of County Roadways in the Dammeron Valley, Veyo, Brookside, Baker Dam, and Central Areas

Washington County Road Department will be conducting Chip Sealing of County Roadways in the Dammeron Valley, Veyo, Brookside, Baker Dam, and Central Areas on the following estimated dates:

  • August 26 – September 3, 2024 Dammeron Valley East and West side Areas
  • September 3 – 9, 2024 Veyo & Brookside Areas
  • September 9 – 12, 2024 Baker Dam Area
  • September 11 – October 10, 2024 Central Area Roads

Brooming of all Roadways will start August 12, 2024, and follow Chip Sealing until October 17, 2024.

Drive slow and cautiously watching for construction workers and equipment. Expect traffic delays but no road closures.

Please park all vehicles off all roadways, right of ways, and into properties. Keep all trash receptacles off roadways.

The following is the tentative chip sealing schedule for Washington County roads during August and September of 2022:

  • August 8 – 10, 2022: Kolob Terrace Road Starting at the top and ending at Virgin. County sections only.
  • August 11, 2022: Goulds Wash Road from Hurricane Line to the Three Points Center.
  • August 15 – 18, 2022: New Harmony Area
    • August 15: Harmony Height Phase 2 to Cemetery
    • August 16: U-144 to 900 E., 900 E., 800 N., 1130 E., 1000 N., 1400 E., 2000 N.
    • August 17: U-144 to 1100 E., 1100 E., 500 N. 1500 E., 300 N., 460 N.
    • August 18: 3900 E., 200 S., 80 S., U-144 to 3430 E., 3430 E., Santa Rosa Dr., 3500 E.
  • August 22 – 25, 2022: Finish New Harmony side and Start Black Ridge Ranches
    • August 22: 2900 E. library, finish U-144
    • August 23: Old Hyw. 91 from Kolob Canyons to Badger Way, Badger Way, 2130 S., 2650 S.
    • August 24 – 25: Black Ridge Ranches Area Roads

  • Monday to Monday, May 17 – 24, 2021: Chip and Seal Old Highway 91 from Gunlock turnoff West to the Utah/Arizona State Line.
    • There will be limited road closures, but flaggers and pilot cars will be used every day. Traffic may be limited to one lane at a time and drivers should expect delays.
  • Tuesday to Friday, May 25 – 28, 2021: Chip and Seal roads in the Sky Ranch Subdivisions, Cliff Dweller Subdivision and 1100 West from 3250 South to 3750 South.
    • There will be limited road closures, but flaggers and pilot cars will be used every day. Traffic may be limited to one lane at a time and drivers should expect delays.

Chip Seal Road Projects for September, 2019

Washington County Public Works and Road Department will be chip sealing various roads in September 2019 according to the schedule below. Please be aware of County Road Department personnel and equipment. Drivers may want to avoid these areas if possible and plan for extra time when you are traveling. All road ways will stay open and driveable but may be delayed and restricted to one lane in areas.

Please no parking on roadways in these areas and move trash can receptacle’s off these roadways on these dates!

Old Highway 91 Road Work from Mile Post 4 to Mile Post 16

Road work will resume Monday June 19th on a road project to improve the safety of Old Highway 91 in Washington County from Mile Post 4 to Mile Post 16 on the road from Ivins, Utah to Littlefield, Arizona. Work is expected to cause traffic delays until completion in mid- July 2017.

Work will consist of installing guardrail. No overnight or complete road closures are anticipated. Delays of 15 minutes or more will be common due to lane restrictions and potential safety concerns in the work zones. The work area is 12 miles long and work crews could be working at many different locations throughout the project. Reduced speeds will be enforced through the work areas.

Please make your travel plans anticipating these delays. The public is encouraged to use Interstate 15 through the Virgin River Gorge as their main travel way during this period of time to allow the construction crews to work and increase safety in the work zones.

Old Highway 91 Press Release

Road Work from the Arizona State Line to the Intersection with the Gunlock Road

Mile Post 0.0 to 16.7

Road work has now begun on an improvement project to improve the safety of Old Highway 91 in Washington County between the Arizona state line near Littlefield Arizona and the intersection with Gunlock Road on the Shivwits Reservation near Ivins, Utah. Work is expected to cause traffic delays until completion in July to 2017.

Work will consist of extending culverts, installing new culverts, widening shoulders, removing clear-zone obstructions, cutting back cliffs, new signage, new striping and other various improvements. Some overnight and other short-term road closures are anticipated and will be noticed before each closure. Delays of 30 minutes or more will be common due to lane restrictions and potential safety concerns in the work zones. The work area is 16.7 miles long and work crews will be working at many different locations throughout the project. Reduced speeds will be enforced through the work areas.

    Washington County Roads will be sweeping all roads in the Dammeron Valley West Side in preparation for chip sealing.
  • June 29, 2016 – June 30, 2016 and July 5, 2016 – July 7, 2016, Highway U-144
    Washington County Roads will be sweeping Highway U-144 from I-15 Exit #42 to New Harmony Township Line by the cemetery including Harmony Heights subdivision phase 2 including 400 E., 200 S., and 800 E. in preparation for chip sealing.
  • July 5, 2016 – July 7, 2016, Old Highway 91
    Washington County Roads will be sweeping Old Highway 91 from I-15 Exit #40 to I-15 Exit #36 in preparation for chip sealing.
  • July 11, 2016 – July 12, 2016, Dammeron Valley West Side Area
    Washington County Roads will be chip sealing roadways in the Dammeron Valley West Side Area. “Keep garbage cans 5 feet off of the roadway edges and NO parking on roadways or roadway edges.”
  • July 13, 2016 – July 14, 2016 and July 18, 2016 – July 19, 2016, Highway U-144
    Washington County Roads will be chip sealing Highway U-144 from I-15 Exit #42 to New Harmony Township Line by the cemetery including Harmony Heights subdivision phase 2 including 400 E., 200 S., and 800 E. “No parking on roadway edges.”

    Washington County Roads will be sweeping all loose chips off of roadways in the Dammeron Valley West Area.
  • July 27, 2016 – July 28, 2016 and August 1, 2016 –August 4, 2016, Highway U-144
    Washington County Roads be sweeping all loose chips off of Highway U-144 from I-15 Exit #42 to New Harmony Township Line by the cemetery including Harmony Heights subdivision phase 2 including 400 E., 200 S., and 800 E.
  • August 8, 2016 – August 10, 2016, Old Highway 91
    Washington County Roads be sweeping all loose chips off of Old Highway 91 from I-15 Exit #40 to I-15 Exit #36.
  • August 12, 2016, Highway U-144
    Straight Stipe will be painting all roadway markings on Highway U-144 from I-15 Exit #42 to New Harmony Township Line by the cemetery and Old Highway 91 from I-15 Exit #40 to I-15 Exit #36.
