The United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Washington County, and Hurricane City announce the availability of the Warner Draw Watershed Supplemental Watershed Plan No. 10 and Final Environmental Impact Statement (Plan-EIS) for the Gould Wash Flood Protection Project (Project). The Project preferred alternative proposes improvements along Gould Wash through Hurricane City and installation of a dry detention dam on land managed by the Bureau of Land Management upstream of Hurricane City, in Washington County, Utah. The Project would reduce flooding in Hurricane City, protecting people, structures, transportation infrastructure, public utilities, and property from floodwater damage.

An evaluation of potential project alternatives and associated environmental impacts have been documented in the form of a Draft Plan-EIS. NRCS (lead federal agency) and the local sponsoring organizations (Washington County and Hurricane City), will hold a public meeting to provide information about the proposed Project and Draft Plan-EIS analysis, and to collect comments on the Draft Plan-EIS.

The United States Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA-NRCS), with assistance of Washington County, Utah, as the project sponsor, is considering proposed improvements within the Santa Clara Watershed. The proposed improvements include the construction of stream diversions and detention basins within the Dammeron and Diamond Valleys as well as other improvements within the Shivwits Band of Paiutes lands, including stream restoration, irrigation supply, and flood protection.

Washington County & USDA-NRCS will hold an in-person public meeting to provide information about the proposed project and to collect comments. Technical studies have concluded, and the Draft Plan-Environmental Assessment (EA) is now available for public comment. Download the fact sheet for full details.

Sealed bids will be received for the construction of the SR-18; Veyo to Central Multi-Use Path Project. Bids must be submitted by November 29, 2023, 10:00 AM, to Washington County, c/o Todd Edwards, at the Washington County Public Works Department located in the Washington County Office Building, Commission Chambers, 111 East Tabernacle, St. George, Utah 84770 (Google Maps). Bids will be opened publicly and read aloud. Each Bid must be submitted in a sealed envelope, addressed to Washington County, c/o Todd Edwards, 111 East Tabernacle, St. George, Utah 84770. Each sealed envelope containing a Bid must be plainly marked on the outside "SR-18; Veyo To Central Multi-Use Path Project".

There will be a non-mandatory pre-BID meeting and site visit 111 East Tabernacle, St. George in Training conference room #301 on Monday, November 20, 2023 at 10:00 AM.

The Bid includes furnishing all labor, materials, transportation, and services to construct approximately 6 miles of paved bike/multi-use path, including drainage improvements, and other miscellaneous items.

All bidders who submit a bid are required to be on the Plan Holders List. Addenda will only be provided to the plan holders that are on the Plan Holders List.

A 100% performance — labor and materials bond will be required on this project. Washington County reserves the right to reject any, or all bids, or to waive any formality or technicality in any bid, in the interest of the County.

Road Construction Project
SR-18 Widening

Washington County is working in conjunction with Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) to add approximately eighteen feet (18′) of additional pavement to Northbound SR-18 from The Ledges to the North Snow Canyon entrance. This project will begin on Monday, February 14, 2022. Completion is expected no later than Sunday, May 01, 2022. Please be aware of construction vehicles during this time.

RFSQ for Frog Hollow Rehabilitation Project

Washington County is requesting qualifications from Engineering Firms licensed in the State of Utah for final design resulting in the rehabilitation of Frog Hollow Debris Basin located approximately five miles Southwest of Hurricane, Utah.

Four (4) copies of the SOQ are due at Washington County Public Works Office and must be received by Friday, March 22, 2019 at 5 p.m. to be eligible for consideration.

Proposals are to be submitted in a sealed envelope and marked “Engineering and construction surveillance services for the Frog Hollow Debris Basin Rehabilitation Project SOQ”.
